Aphrodite loved to sketch for as far back as can be remembered. While a member of the Greater Haverhill Arts Association in Massachusetts, her award winning paintings drew the attention of Boston Copley Master Artist, Mark Hayden. Working under the guidance and teachings of Hayden, Oscar Durand of Manchester New Hampshire and New York’s N.A. Master Artist Daniel E. Greene, her skills were sharpened.
For many years, Aphrodite painted legendary sports figures which include Larry Bird, Drew Bledsoe, Magic Johnson, Mo Vaughn, Kirby Puckett, Ray Bourque, and Dino Radja. Most of these originals can be viewed at the New England Sports Museum in Boston, Massachusetts.
During a visit to the Virgin Islands, this New England native was inspired by lush vistas and tropical seascapes. Since then, Aphrodite has established herself as a Caribbean artist. Her paintings have received top awards through the years at the islands’ largest tri-island ‘Caribbean Color’ exhibit.
Aphrodite maintained a studio in Tillett Gardens on St. Thomas for several years where she created many of her paintings. Through that location and local Galleries, her work has been collected by people from all over the world. One of her pieces is owned by country western singer Kenny Chesney and former Boston Celtic, Dino Radja. Back in New England, she also continues to creates oil paintings of seacoast scenes as well as mountain views and other pieces of beauty that inspire her.
Aphrodite says, “I am very grateful to those who continue to inspire, support and encourage me throughout this endeavor of turning – what was once, only a dream, into an exciting reality”. (1997-2005)
